ACTION NEEDED for Darebin Creek and Parklands

Darebin Council has launched a survey about the management of the creek and parklands - and the outcome could seriously impact its future.

Council is considering exploring new options for land managers, opening the door to private contractors taking on the role currently held by our locally grown Darebin Creek Management Committee (DCMC).

This could mean the end of the decades-long partnership with DCMC - a not-for-profit organisation that has cared for and fought for this precious environment for over 50 years.

DCMC are so much more than land managers. They’re advocates for our creek and parklands.

They have worked tirelessly with community volunteers to save the area from development, restore habitat and enhance it into the cherished natural space it is today, filled with biodiversity and beauty.

Their community education programs have brought schools, families and volunteers into the heart of this ecosystem - teaching generations to love and protect it.

💔 It would be a disaster for the creek and parklands if DCMC were ousted in favour of private contracted land managers.

✊ We need to speak up - now.

Here’s how you can take action:
🗓️ Complete the survey before it closes on 8 June: Future Management of Darebin Creek and Parklands | Your Say Darebin
💬 Write to Darebin Council - tell them what DCMC means to you
🙋🏼 Attend a Council meeting - make your voice heard
🌱 Tell your friends to join in standing up for the Darebin Creek & Parklands

DCMC deeply understand the social and ecological value of the creek corridor – and how to care for it for generations to come.
