 Northcote High School

major UPGRADE FOR NORTHCOTE HIGH ON ITS WAY

Investment: $8.01 million
Status: Under Construction

I am thrilled to share the news that Northcote High School will receive $8.01 million from the Andrews Labor Government to deliver Stage 1 of the Northcote High School masterplan – including a new state-of-the-art STEM Centre!

Northcote High is one of the largest government schools in Victoria and a much-loved part of our local community. However, it has been facing significant challenges as a result of booming enrolments, aging facilities and a small inner urban footprint.

This new vertical build will ensure students at Northcote High have the facilities they need to create, learn and thrive.

Together with parents, students, teachers and staff, we created a compelling case for investment and a positive campaign – and it worked, we did it!

This funding is part of an incredible $1.6 billion boost in funding as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s 2021 Budget to build new schools and improve existing ones across the state – creating 3,500 jobs in the process.

Kerstin Thompson Architects have now been appointed to design Northcote High’s $8 million upgrade.

This is the same team of architects who designed the award-winning Performing Arts Centre at Northcote High, opened in 2019.

I am looking forward to seeing how they transform the school’s vision into reality.

NEW PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE

Investment: $4.5 million
Status: Completed

In 2019, I joined the Minister for Education, James Merlino to celebrate the opening of Northcote High’s incredible new performing arts and senior study building.

Thanks to a $4.5 million investment from the Andrews Government, Northcote High students now have a state-of-the-art facility to explore their creativity.

Designed by Kerstin Thompson Architects, this incredible building won a prestigious Victorian School Design Award in 2019.

SUPPORTING STUDENTS TO RIDE TO SCHOOL

Investment: $55,000
Status: Complete

In 2019, Principal Harrap and the school Council reached out to me about the urgent need for secure bike racks at Northcote High.

With over 1,800 students, the school has no where near the amount of secure bike storage needed for those who wanted to ride to school. Unfortunately, this was leading to a significant number of bike thefts – and I knew I wanted to help.

I worked closely with the school to raise this issue within government and was pleased to secure $55,000 in funding from the School Pride and Sports fund to construct around 200 new secure bike racks at the school.
