Hi, I’m Kat Theophanous - the Labor Member of Parliament for Northcote in the Victorian Legislative Assembly.
Investment: 2021-22 $8.007 million
2022-22 $8.74 million
2022 $2.3 million
Status: Completed
I am thrilled to announce that the State Labor Government has just completed a brand-new Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Building on campus at Northcote High School! This modern three-storey learning building is now a centrepiece at the school, providing students with cutting edge labs, indoor and outdoor classrooms, admin, student support spaces, and a new expansive library.
Northcote High School caters to almost 2,000 local students every year. As one of two public high schools in the electorate, it’s a vital part of our community - and delivering modern facilities to elevate its exceptional learning program has been a priority.
Our journey has included the completion of two new competition-grade netball courts as well as the award-winning Performing Arts Centre. Opening the new STEM Building means we’ve now achieved the next crucial stage of our masterplan. I want to thank the Northcote High community for their advocacy, collaboration and patience throughout these years of renewal. What has been achieved is a testament to the school community and our shared aspiration to give students a great education.
As your MP I’ll always fight for every student to have the opportunities they deserve. As much as that is creating modern facilities, it is also backing our hardworking teachers, supporting families, and investing in the health and wellbeing of students.
Northcote High is an impressive school, and I am immensely proud to support the modern facilities that allow it to go even further.

In 2019, I joined the Minister for Education, James Merlino to celebrate the opening of Northcote High’s incredible new performing arts and senior study building.
Thanks to a $4.5 million investment from the Andrews Government, Northcote High students now have a state-of-the-art facility to explore their creativity.
Designed by Kerstin Thompson Architects, this incredible building won a prestigious Victorian School Design Award in 2019.

In 2019, Principal Harrap and the school Council reached out to me about the urgent need for secure bike racks at Northcote High.
With over 1,800 students, the school has no where near the amount of secure bike storage needed for those who wanted to ride to school. Unfortunately, this was leading to a significant number of bike thefts – and I knew I wanted to help.
I worked closely with the school to raise this issue within government and was pleased to secure $55,000 in funding from the School Pride and Sports fund to construct around 200 new secure bike racks at the school.
