Thornbury High School

brand new steam learning centre on its way

Investment: $14.9 million
Status: Complete

Last year I joined the Premier Dan Andrews at Thornbury High to announce that the school will receive $14.9 million from the Andrews Labor Government to deliver the next stage of their master plan – a brand new STEAM learning centre!

Together with the school, I’d been working hard within Government to make sure that every person with the power to make funding decisions knew exactly what was at stake at Thornbury High.

I know that the upgrades this funding will deliver are far more than bricks and mortar. They will transform the school and dramatically expand the opportunities that our young people will have available to them.

The STEAM centre will encourage excellence for students in science, technology, engineering, arts and maths. It will build on the strong record of achievement that Thornbury High has in STEAM learning.

Did you know THS is one of just 13 schools in Victoria with a NexStar Evolution telescope, and runs overseas trips to NASA headquarters in Florida to expand student’s learning.

This investment builds on the $5.3 million the school received from the Andrews Government to deliver Stage 1 of the Masterplan, completed earlier in the year with a brand new competition grade gymnasium, auditorium and creative spaces.

Thornbury High is transforming into a truly modern learning environment. I can’t wait to see what the students will build, create and learn in their incredible new spaces.

Project Update - Renders Revealed

In March 2021 Brand Architects were appointed to design this $14.9 million upgrade at the school.

Current and future students and families of Thornbury High joined together in October 2021 to view the digital renders and see a fly-through video of the planned upgrades to the school.

PERFORMING ARTS CENTRE AND GYMNASIUM

Investment: $5 million
Status: Completed

Just before term one ended in 2020, I visited Thornbury High School to officially open their new Performing Arts Centre and Gymnasium.

The impressive building, which is Stage One of the School's redevelopment, is complete thanks to $5 million investment from the Andrews Government.

Together we are delivering a brighter future for Thornbury High.

INCLUSIVE SPACES FOR THE FUTURE

Investment: $200,000
Status: Complete

The Andrews Labor Government is helping more schools build inclusive play areas, sensory gardens and outdoor learning areas to support students with disabilities and additional needs.

Locally this has included $198,000 investment at Croxton Special School that supported the creation of an outdoor sensory play space and $200,000 for Thornbury High School for the development of an inclusive outdoor learning space to support their long running integration program.
