PLANNING A SAFER ST GEORGES ROAD INTERSECTION
A re-elected Labor Government will invest $3 million to redesign the St Georges Rd, Merri Pde and Charles St intersection.
The St Georges Rd, Merri Pde and Charles St intersection is used by locals every day. This is one of Melbourne’s busiest cycling routes, and a complex intersection where a major arterial road, trams, buses and all converge in a very constrained space.
That’s why Labor will plan for important safety upgrades, starting with a safety audit and design planning. This will focus on how to improve safety for all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists.
This means working people will be able to get where they need to go safer and sooner.
Labor knows local communities deserve safe, well-connected local roads.
That’s why Labor is backing safety upgrades on the roads locals use every day.
A Liberal-One Nation Coalition Government would make $40 billion in cuts.
Quotes attributable to Minister for Roads and Road Safety Paul Hamer
“We are getting back to basics by improving the local roads working people rely on every day.”
Quotes attributable to Member for Northcote Kat Theophanous
“Getting onto the St Georges Rd bike path shouldn’t mean navigating tram tracks, turning traffic and confusing crossings. I’ve listened to local residents and cycling advocates, and now we'll turn that local advocacy into practical action."
“Getting this right requires careful planning and detailed engineering. That’s exactly what this funding will support, enabling us to deliver safer, more direct connections for everyone who uses this intersection. Only Labor will make this happen.”
