Hi, I’m Kat Theophanous - the Labor Member of Parliament for Northcote in the Victorian Legislative Assembly.

SUPPORTING MULTICULTURAL GROUPS IN NORTHCOTE

Sunday, 18 October 2026

A re-elected Carroll Labor Government will invest $140,000 to support local multicultural and faith groups in Northcote.

Labor will deliver $140,000 to support groups including Reach Community Church, Northern Region Indian Seniors Association, Darusalam Society and St George Antiochian Orthodox Cathedral.

This commitment builds on our previous announcement that a re-elected Carroll Labor Government will provide $200,000 to continue to support the Northcote Festival.

Labor knows our multicultural communities make Northcote stronger.

Labor will always celebrate and protect Victoria’s diversity.

A Liberal-One Nation coalition will divide our state and hurt multicultural and multifaith communities.

Only Labor will protect Victoria’s multicultural and multifaith communities.

Quotes attributable to Minister for Multicultural Affairs Paul Edbrooke

“A strong Victoria is one where everyone can contribute, belong and see their stories reflected.”

Quotes attributable to Member for Northcote Kat Theophanous

“Labor backs our multicultural and multifaith communities because they make our whole community stronger. This $140,000 commitment will help local groups celebrate culture, bring people together and provide support that people know and trust.”

“As the daughter of migrants, I know how much it means to have a place where your language is spoken, your traditions are understood and your story belongs. I’m proud to back the local organisations keeping those connections strong and pass them on to the next generation.”

“The inner north is proudly diverse. It’a a place where sharing a meal, joining a celebration or getting to know someone of a different faith is part of everyday life. Our local groups create those opportunities, turning neighbours into friends and building understanding across cultures and generations.”
