I’m delighted to share some fantastic news for our community.
Henderson Park in Thornbury is set to receive a major upgrade thanks to $498, 600 in new funding from the Victorian Government’s Pick My Park program, including matched funding from Darebin City Council.
This investment will help deliver important improvements to one of our neighbourhood’s most loved local parks, making it an even better place for families, children and neighbours to gather, play and relax.
Henderson Park is one of those places that does a lot of heavy lifting for our community.
As Thornbury Primary School Council President, Darby Fullerton, said:
"Henderson Park is heavily used by the school and broader community.
As extra play space during recess and lunch, for running around with friends, for birthday parties, for playdates, for dog walks, for keeping fit, or for just getting out of the house.
Upgrading Henderson Park will have a huge impact on our school and on our community.
I look forward to seeing it develop into the gathering space that provides for all and for all the smiles and laugher that it deserves to bring."
I’ve been proud to advocate strongly for improvements to Henderson Park and to work alongside Thornbury Primary families and the wider community to ensure this project received the support it deserved.
Through this funding, Henderson Park will get new BBQs and picnic areas, a shelter with tables, renewed park infrastructure, and, of course, more planting, and landscaping.
As Thornbury continues to grow, it’s vital that we continue investing in high quality local open spaces that bring people together and support healthy, active, and connected neighbourhoods.
I’ll continue to keep the community updated as planning progresses and I’m really looking forward to seeing these upgrades delivered.
